【Event Report】International Symposium on Chemistry for Multimolecular Crowding Biosystems: Post 55th Naito conference in Kyoto
2026年7月4日(土)から5日(日)の2日間にわたり、京都大学吉田キャンパス 国際科学イノベーション棟 HORIBAシンポジウムホールにて、国際シンポジウム「International Symposium on Chemistry for Multimolecular Crowding Biosystems : Post 55th Naito conference in Kyoto」を開催いたしました。本シンポジウムは、科研費 特別推進研究「生体分子夾雑の有機化学の開拓(Development of organic chemistry targeting biomolecules in live animals)」(研究代表者:浜地 格 教授)の支援のもとで企画・実施されたものです。
当日は、国内外から第一線で活躍する著名な研究者および気鋭の若手研究者をお招きし、ケミカルバイオロジー、バイオイメージング、機能性バイオマテリアル、有機化学から生命科学にまたがる最先端の研究成果について、計20件の極めて刺激的なご講演をいただきました。特に海外からお招きしたkeynote speakersの講演は圧巻でした。参加登録者は、京都大学の教員や学生にとどまらず国内外8カ国、20の教育研究機関等から100人を超え、最年少では高校生に至るまで多岐に渡り、国境や世代を超えた幅広い層に関心を持っていただく充実した会となりました。会場では、生体内や細胞内に代表される複雑な「分子夾雑環境」における天然・合成(高・小)分子の挙動解明や制御を巡り、分野を超えた活発なディスカッションや意見交換が行われ、終始熱気に包まれたシンポジウムとなりました。
本シンポジウムの開催にあたり、素晴らしいご講演をいただいた演者の先生方、ならびにご参加・ご協力いただきましたすべての皆様に心より御礼申し上げます。本プロジェクトでは、今後も「生体分子夾雑の有機化学」のさらなる学術的発展を目指し、研究活動を推進して参ります。
The international symposium titled "International Symposium on Chemistry for Multimolecular Crowding Biosystems: Post 55th Naito Conference in Kyoto" was successfully held over two days, from Saturday, July 4 to Sunday, July 5, 2026, at the HORIBA International Conference Hall in the International Science Innovation Building on Kyoto University's Yoshida Campus. This symposium was planned and organized under the auspices of the KAKENHI Grant-in-Aid for Specially Promoted Research project, "Development of organic chemistry targeting biomolecules in live animals" (Principal Investigator: Professor Itaru Hamachi).
The event featured 20 highly stimulating lectures by distinguished, world-leading researchers as well as brilliant, emerging young scholars from both Japan and abroad. The presentations covered cutting-edge research spanning chemical biology, bioimaging, functional biomaterials, organic chemistry, and life sciences. The keynote lectures by invited speakers from abroad ware tremendously inspiring and exciting.
The symposium attracted over 100 registered participants from a diverse range of backgrounds, encompassing not only Kyoto University faculty and students but also attendees from 20 educational and research institutions across 8 countries. Strikingly, the attendees spanned generations, with the youngest being high school students, making the event a truly vibrant gathering that transcended national borders and age groups. Throughout the sessions, the venue was filled with immense enthusiasm. Participants engaged in lively, cross-disciplinary discussions and exchanged insights on elucidating and controlling molecular behavior within complex "crowded environments," such as inside living organisms and cells.
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all the speakers for their outstanding presentations, as well as to everyone who participated and contributed to the success of this symposium.
Moving forward, this project will continue to promote research activities with the aim of driving further academic advancements in the field of "organic chemistry for biomolecular crowding."
